Grounded 2 weapon progression
A strong arsenal is a small set of answers, not one permanent winner. Start with a Pebblet Spear or Warhammerlet, then build a Tier II loadout that covers smashing, fast melee, and ranged combat. Move into Tier III weapons only when their materials and challenge routes become available.
| Stage | Weapon | Damage and role |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Pebblet Spear | Simple stabbing weapon with cheap repairs |
| Early Tier II | Red Ant Club | Smashing, high stun, and charged block breaking |
| Tier II sustain | Mosquito Needle | Fast stabbing attacks with lifesteal |
| Tier II slash | Crimson Saber or Crimson Avenger | Fast slashing for creatures weak to that type |
| Tier II ranged | Spider Stringer | Bow pressure, weak-point hits, and specialized arrows |
| Tier III slash | Mantis Blade | Heavy slashing damage with useful speed and stun |
| Tier III Fresh | Ice Sickles | Fast Fresh slashing and freeze-focused combat |
| Beat the Heat | King Dozer scale weapons | Late progression rewards from the King Dozer boss |
Choose weapons by job
Scan the target with PEEP.R before spending upgrade materials. A high-level weapon can still be a poor choice when the creature resists its physical or elemental damage. Keep one answer for the most common weakness in your current region and one neutral fallback for mixed encounters.
Use the Red Ant Club when stun and block breaking matter. Use the Mosquito Needle when quick attacks and self-healing stabilize a long fight. Equip a slashing sword for slash-weak creatures, and keep the Spider Stringer ready for flying enemies, dangerous openings, or weak points you cannot safely reach in melee.
Upgrade weapons without wasting whetstones
Progress through Art of War, buy the Smithing Station blueprint for 500 Raw Science, and build it at your base. Hold the weapon and materials in your inventory when upgrading because stored items are not counted by the station.
Brittle Whetstones raise weapon damage and durability. The first three upgrade levels cost 5, 10, and 15 whetstones. Spend them on weapons that already fill a clear role; an unused weapon gains no practical value from a higher number.
Prioritize in this order:
- Your main weapon for routine travel and gathering.
- A second physical damage type for resistant enemies.
- A ranged weapon for flyers and safe openings.
- Specialized elemental weapons for bosses and dangerous biomes.
A compact three-weapon loadout
An efficient general kit uses the Red Ant Club for stun, the Mosquito Needle or Crimson Avenger for fast one-handed pressure, and the Spider Stringer for range. This covers control, mobility, sustain, and targets that punish close combat without filling the whole backpack.
Replace one slot for the planned fight. Ice Sickles suit Fresh-vulnerable targets, while the Mantis Blade adds heavier slashing. King Dozer scale gear belongs in late progression after the boss materials are available.
