Fire Brick recipe at a glance
Fire Brick is a Tier 3 crafted material in Grounded 2. You make it in an Oven and do not need to find loose bricks in the pond.
| Ingredient | Amount | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Clay | 4 | Gather Clay around pools and damp ground |
| Crushed Quartz | 1 | Process 1 Phantom Quartz Shard in a Quern |
The recipe belongs to the Into the Abyss quartz chain. Brittle Quartzite and Sturdy Quartzite belong to a different upgrade system and will not work in this craft.
Unlock Fire Brick step by step
The recipe requires two separate analysis actions. Scanning Phantom Quartz opens the processing step, while scanning the processed Crushed Quartz opens Fire Brick.
- Mine a Phantom Quartz Shard around the Gnarly Bark tree with the Tier 3 Omni-Hammer.
- Analyze the Phantom Quartz Shard at a Resource Analyzer to unlock the Quern and Crushed Quartz.
- Build a Quern and process 1 Phantom Quartz Shard into 1 Crushed Quartz.
- Analyze the Crushed Quartz to unlock the Fire Brick recipe.
- Load 4 Clay and 1 Crushed Quartz into an Oven to make one Fire Brick.
- Analyze a finished Fire Brick to unlock the Kiln and Quartz Glass recipe.
Your first Fire Brick is an unlock key; the rest become equipment, production stations, and marine walls. Analyze one early so later batches can feed the full pond progression.
Get an Oven before starting the batch
Fire Brick uses the existing Oven, while Quartz Glass later uses the Kiln. If the Oven is still locked, collect the Hedge Optical Disk, load it into a Ranger Station, and buy Advanced Production Buildings for 2,500 Raw Science.
Building the Oven requires:
- 10 Clay
- 4 EverChar Coal Chunk
- 4 Boiling Gland
Finish this station before farming a large quartz batch. The Quern can prepare Crushed Quartz, but only the Oven turns that powder and Clay into Fire Brick.
Farm both Fire Brick ingredients
Mine Phantom Quartz around Gnarly Bark
Search the pond-facing side of the Gnarly Bark tree, the water below its roots, and the connected dry caves. Bring the Tier 3 Omni-Hammer because lower hammer tiers cannot break the Phantom Quartz nodes.
Process each shard in a Quern for one Crushed Quartz. Keep the two outputs distinct in storage. The shard feeds the Quern, and the powder feeds Fire Brick and Quartz Glass.
Gather Clay near water
Clay appears around pools and damp ground, so collect it during pond trips instead of making a separate long route. Every brick consumes four Clay, and the Oven itself also costs ten Clay. A small stack disappears quickly once the Kiln becomes the goal.
Fix a missing Fire Brick recipe
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Phantom Quartz is in the inventory but Crushed Quartz is missing | Analyze one Phantom Quartz Shard, then use the Quern |
| Crushed Quartz is available but Fire Brick is missing | Analyze one Crushed Quartz at a Resource Analyzer |
| Fire Brick appears but has no crafting option | Use an Oven, not a Workbench or Kiln |
| The Oven is still locked | Load the Hedge Optical Disk and buy Advanced Production Buildings |
| Brittle or Sturdy Quartzite is in storage | Replace it with Crushed Quartz made from Phantom Quartz |
The common stopping point is the second analysis. Finding Phantom Quartz does not skip the Quern. Process one shard, carry the Crushed Quartz to a Ranger Station, and scan that powder.
How many Fire Bricks to reserve
| Use | Fire Bricks | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Kiln | 8 | First major reserve when Quartz Glass blocks diving progression |
| Diving Boots | 2 | Required lower-body piece for the complete Diving Suit |
| Ticky Maul | 1 | Optional Tier 3 life-steal club craft |
| Marine walls and doors | Varies | Spend after core equipment and production are covered |
The Kiln also needs 5 EverChar Coal Chunk, 3 Green Shield Bug Parts, 4 Rust, and 3 Horsetail Stem. Check those materials before baking eight bricks so the reserve can become a working station immediately.
If the complete Diving Suit is the current objective, protect the Kiln batch first because its Quartz Glass output feeds the other diving pieces. Keep two additional bricks for the Diving Boots. Large marine bases should wait until these one-time progression costs are covered.
