Grounded 2 Quartz Glass Recipe and Unlock Guide

Unlock Quartz Glass in Grounded 2, craft it with Crushed Quartz and Horsetail Stem, and fix a missing recipe after building the Kiln.

Quick answer

  • 1Analyze a Fire Brick at a Resource Analyzer to unlock Quartz Glass and the Kiln.
  • 2Craft one Quartz Glass in the Kiln with 2 Crushed Quartz and 1 Horsetail Stem.
  • 3Make Fire Brick in an Oven with 4 Clay and 1 Crushed Quartz, then analyze it.
  • 4Quartz Glass is required for diving gear, aquatic utilities, and windowed marine walls.

Quartz Glass recipe at a glance

Quartz Glass is a refined Into the Abyss resource used by the new diving and underwater-building progression. Craft it in a Kiln with the following materials:

IngredientAmountWhere to get it
Crushed Quartz2Process Phantom Quartz Shards in a Quern
Horsetail Stem1Cut horsetail plants around the Bridge area

Quartz Glass has its own recipe chain. Brittle Quartzite Shards and Sturdy Quartzite Shards belong to weapon upgrading, so they cannot replace Phantom Quartz or Crushed Quartz in this recipe.

Unlock Quartz Glass step by step

Building a Kiln does not complete the unlock. The recipe appears only after the quartz research chain reaches Fire Brick.

  1. Mine a Phantom Quartz Shard with the Tier 3 Omni-Hammer.
  2. Analyze the shard at a Resource Analyzer. This unlocks the Quern and Crushed Quartz.
  3. Build a Quern and process Phantom Quartz into Crushed Quartz.
  4. Analyze one Crushed Quartz to unlock the Fire Brick recipe.
  5. Put 4 Clay and 1 Crushed Quartz into an Oven to make one Fire Brick.
  6. Analyze the Fire Brick. This unlocks the Kiln and Quartz Glass recipe.
  7. Build the Kiln, then process 2 Crushed Quartz and 1 Horsetail Stem into Quartz Glass.

Analyze one item at every stage before spending the rest. That small habit prevents a scarce first batch from disappearing into equipment before it opens the next recipe.

Farm the two Quartz Glass ingredients

Find Phantom Quartz Shards

Travel to the pond-facing side of the Gnarly Bark tree. Phantom Quartz deposits appear around the roots and inside the connected caves, with nodes both underwater and on dry sections of the cave route. Bring the Tier 3 Omni-Hammer, because lower tool tiers cannot break these crystals.

Clear nearby Toe-biters and Diving Bell Spiders before mining. The dry cave deposits are the safer first target if underwater combat or oxygen time is still limited. Return with extra shards because the same supply feeds Crushed Quartz, Fire Brick, and Quartz Glass.

Harvest Horsetail Stem

Horsetail grows on land around the Bridge area. Cut the plant with the Omni-Axe and collect its stems. Quartz Glass consumes one stem per craft, so gather more than the immediate recipe total during each trip.

Fix a missing Quartz Glass recipe

Use this checklist when Quartz Glass is absent from the Kiln menu:

CheckRequired action
Phantom Quartz was collected but Crushed Quartz is missingAnalyze a Phantom Quartz Shard
Crushed Quartz exists but Fire Brick is missingAnalyze one Crushed Quartz
The Kiln is built but Quartz Glass is missingCraft a Fire Brick in the Oven and analyze it
The recipe appears but cannot startCarry 2 Crushed Quartz and 1 Horsetail Stem
Quartzite is in the inventoryReplace it with Crushed Quartz made from Phantom Quartz

The most common stopping point is the Fire Brick analysis. Fire Brick acts as the research key even though the Quartz Glass recipe consumes Crushed Quartz and Horsetail Stem.

Best uses for Quartz Glass

Prioritize diving equipment when deeper pond access is the immediate goal. Quartz Glass is used by the Diving Helmet and Diving Suit Chestplate, which support longer and deeper underwater exploration introduced with Into the Abyss.

After the essential gear is covered, Quartz Glass also feeds the Pressure Cooker, Windowed Marine Wall, and Windowed Marine Curved Wall. Keep a separate reserve for equipment before starting a large underwater base, since windowed structures can consume a growing stock quickly.
