Grounded 2 explosives solve different obstacles: Bratburst breaks cracked rocks, Tang Banger clears the corrosive-explosive requirement on gunked doors, and Croakwurst opens underwater rock obstacles. Splatburst gives the ordinary bomb a sticky coating for more controlled placement. Match the bomb to the barrier before spending another egg.

A gunked door and a cracked rock can both stop exploration, but their required tools differ. The Ominent Field Archives door belongs to the Tang Banger progression path. Repeated ordinary bombs do not provide that missing sour effect.

Craft Bratburst and Splatburst at a Workbench. Tang Banger can be crafted by hand. Splatburst consumes a finished Bratburst, so prepare the ordinary bomb first and reserve the extra Web Fiber and Sap for its coating.
Getting your first Bratburst ingredients
Bring back a regular Red Ant Egg from an anthill, collect Mite Fangs from Lawn Mites, and break spicy candy for Spicy Shards. Spicy candy needs Omni-Hammer II. Spicy candy can be found around the Picnic Table route, including beneath the tablecloth.
The recipe uses the regular Red Ant Egg. Red Soldier Ant Eggs are used for Buggy progression, so check the item name before making an egg-collection trip.
Unlocking the corrosive explosive
Tang Banger has two separate requirements: learning the recipe from Sloane and gaining access to its ingredients. Speak to her about the blocked Archives door, then continue the Community Garden story to obtain Key Lime Chunks.
Key Limes grow at the top of the tree through the Greenhouse after completing the Community Garden questline and defeating the O.R.C. Broodmother and Masked Fighter encounter. Having the Tang Banger recipe visible does not skip that progression.
For the other ingredients, harvest Sour Candy with Omni-Hammer III for Sour Lumps. The Community Garden has more of this candy than the earlier Picnic Area. Gather Milkweed Tufts from Milkweed Pods with Omni-Axe II; look around the base of the tall plants with purple flower heads.
Do you need Gunpowder Clumps for explosives?
Bratburst, Splatburst, Tang Banger, and Croakwurst do not use Gunpowder Clumps in their recipes. You can prepare the correct route-opening bomb without adding a gunpowder expedition to its material list.
Gunpowder Clumps are a separate Tier 3 resource harvested from Pop Caps with a Tier 3 chopping tool. They occur in areas including Croquet Court, Picnic Table Area, Pumpkin Patch, and Snackbar Front Area, with large supplies near the Buster Cap Gun. Analyzing a clump unlocks Flare and Splody Rounds recipes. Save this material for recipes that actually list it.
How to use an explosive when the route stays blocked
- Inspect the obstacle and choose its matching bomb. Use the table above to distinguish cracked stone, gunk, and underwater stone.
- Aim at the actual obstruction so the explosive lands beside it. Bratburst can be thrown or dropped, and its fuse runs for three seconds once deployed.
- Move clear of the explosion. If the bomb keeps landing away from a dry rock face, use Splatburst and stick it to the obstruction itself.
- For gunk, land Tang Banger next to the coated part of the door. Its coating is not sticky, so check where the bomb finishes its throw.
- Underwater, allow Croakwurst to arm after placement and shoot it with a harpoon to detonate it beside the rock. An armed mine can also trigger when an enemy approaches.
When another attempt fails, check the landing point before crafting a replacement. A Splatburst can stick to something in front of the target, and Tang Banger does not inherit that sticky behavior. A missing crafting recipe calls for an unlock check: the correct Optical Disk and shop purchase for Bratburst, Splatburst, or Croakwurst, or Sloane's door conversation for Tang Banger.
